Dementia is not a part of normal aging.
-
It is a medical condition that causes brain cells to die at a faster rate than normal. The resulting progressive cognitive decline leads to increasing difficulties in coping with everyday activities. A common symptom is poor short-term memory. On average, a person with dementia lives four to eight years after diagnosis but can live as long as 20 years.
